The Great Wall-one of the seven wonders in the world, largest man-made construction on the earth, which symbolizes China’s ancient civilization. A well-know popular saying says: “You are not a pluck hero till you climb on the Great Wall.” Therefore, everyone tried to make it by themselves. Construction of the Great Wall first began during the period of the Warring States (476 BC-21 BC). Originally, the walls were built at strategic points by different kingdoms to protect themselves from northern invaders. In 221 BC, after the first Emperor of the Qin Dynasty unified great China, he decided to have the walls linked up and extended.

Based on historical records, there’re about one million people involved into the construction of the wall, it equivalent to one-fifth of China’s population at the time. Which took more than ten years. When it was finished we call it “Wan Li Chang Cheng” which means “Ten Thousand Li(5,000 kilometers) Long Great Wall”. But the Great Wall having undergone the nature for thousand years, most of them have already taken by nature, only several sections left and open to the public.
